JD Gaming vs. Invictus Gaming: LPL Spring betting analysis

Two potential dark horses for the 2021 LPL Spring Split title will clash when JD Gaming runs into the former world champions from Invictus Gaming in the first week of the 2021 season.

After a shaky 2020 season, the former world champions from iG will make an attempt to bounce back as one of the top teams in the LPL. The team will face a tough opponent at the very beginning, as they match up with the 2020 LPL Spring Split champions and runner-ups in summer from JDG.

In contrast to iG, JDG had a phenomenal season in 2020. The team managed to win its first LPL trophy and debuted on the international stage at the 2020 World Championship. JDG was one of the favorites at the tournament to make a deep run for the Summoner’s Cup, but was knocked out by Suning in the quarterfinals. Since the unfortunate exit out of Worlds, JDG has revamped its roster for 2021 and is looking stronger than ever.

The five starting players from 2020 remain on the team, but have been accompanied by two former Team WE legends. Bot laner Jin “Mystic”  Seong-jun and mid laner Su “xiye” Han-Wei have joined the team in the offseason and will take part in what is now looking to be a seven-man roster. Xiye already made his debut with the team at the 2020 Demacia Cup, where he and the rest of JDG were knocked out by Team WE in a close five-game series.

Taking on JDG in the first week of the 2021 LPL season is iG, who has also added players to its roster in the offseason. With the star players remaining on the squad in mid laner Song “Rookie” Eui-jin and top laner Kang “TheShy” Seung-lok, iG has added four additional players. All four players are young talents looking to prove themselves, and some of them might debut versus JDG.

There will be a lot of question marks surrounding both teams to start out the season, but iG will likely be the least predictable. With strong solo laners in Rookie and TheShy, iG always has the potential to come out of a match victorious. With that said, the team has previously proven itself inconsistent, and that could still be the case in 2021.

JDG is known for being consistently good, especially in team fights. But with two new players in the rotation, the team might need some time to build up synergy.

On paper, the match between JDG and iG could be the closest in the first week of the LPL.

It looks to be close between JD Gaming and Invictus Gaming

Looking at the bookmakers’ predictions, this game could be the most exciting one of them all in the first week of LPL. Both teams look to be very close in raw skill and the odds say the same. There will be a lot of raw skill on both teams, so the winner will likely be decided on who manages to hit the day and have the best teamwork.

Because of recent results, JDG is still a slight favorite with an odds of 1.78, but iG is very close at odds 1.92 for a win. Fans won’t get much closer to a completely even matchup, which means that this could be a real banger.

The match between JDG and iG kicks off on January 10 2021.
